Some Not So Great News

I've had this, for lack of a better word, "blemish" on my face (my right cheek) for quite some time now. It wasn't noticable until recently, as I used to have a full beard.

But when I trimmed my beard back to a mustache and goatee, it showed. It didn't look that good and it wasn't going away.

So I went to see my dermatologist, and it turns out that I have skin cancer. Ack.

Fortunately, according to my doctor, it is the best kind to have: Basal-cell Carcinoma.

I am being referred this week to a plastic surgeon who will be performing Mohs surgery on the cancer.

I have to admit, I am shocked at the diagnosis, but, not too surprised.

While I have never been what you would call a "sun worshipper" in my adult years, I did get sunburns quite regularly when I was a child (in the Sixties) and Cancer is fairly common on my father's side of the family. Add to that my fair complexion, I suppose that it was only a matter of time.

So now I need to buy stock in sunscreen as I will be buying it regularly from now on...

I'll keep you all posted. Talk to you soon.

  1. Well, poo. On the plus side, though, BCC really is the best case scenario.

  2. "The best kind to have?" Okay, I guess that's good news.
Yes, get that taken care of and start practicing safe sunning. And since you never show yourself, I'll just have to take your word for it that you are fair.

It was not too long ago I had my own skin cancer scare, so I can relate

Basal cell ca is the lesser of the evils, at least.
